The difference between journalism and media science

In the research field, journalism has been studying the news and comments of newspapers, radio and television, but less about advertisements and supplements in newspapers, and less about social education, cultural entertainment and social services of radio and television. The research objects of mass communication are very extensive, including newspapers, radio, television, movies, magazines, books, audio-visual products and other information media.

On the research object, journalism focuses on "news" research, and studies the internal operation of the media on the basis of news collection; Communication studies mainly study the interaction between media and society, that is, the role of society on the media and the influence of media on society, with particular emphasis on the study of "people", that is, the audience.

In terms of research methods, traditional journalism focuses on qualitative research, while quantitative research is the main research method, which has made great contributions to the establishment of modern communication.

From the research point of view, journalism research is relatively micro, and mass communication is relatively macro.

In terms of training objectives, journalism cultivates a sense of social responsibility and mission, serves the public interest and cultivates a civil society. Advertising, public relations and organizational communication mainly serve various interest groups, organizations, public relations companies and various industrial and commercial enterprises.
