What are some of the characteristics of Indian building houses?

The Indians who lived in southern and northern California lived in different shanties.

The stone buildings at Sacsayhuaman, Cuzco, still stand today because of the extraordinary talent of their builders. The Indians who lived in northern California lived in small, semicircular shanties. When viewed from a distance, they looked like half a ball snapped into place, somewhat like the yurts that the Mongols now live in, representing, perhaps, their understanding of cosmic nature.

The construction of this small hut, to first dig into the ground two feet deep pit (dug out of the soil, part of the heap to the outside to block the rain, part of the cover to the semi-circular roof), a bit of the flavor of the cellar. Sometimes a flap door was cut in the middle of the roof, and people had to go up and down a ladder to get in and out. In the house of one, three or two families lived. In the center of the house was placed a fire-pit, and the people slept against the walls, with a lot of clutter piled up to the right and left. In the mountains, unlike such a round house, there is also a 2-meter-long, 1-meter-high pedestrian aisle. In every village, there are about 6 to 7 such huts. Next to each house was a beer-barrel shaped, woven granary of grass and twigs, standing firmly on the ground or on a post. In the center of the village, there was also a large, semi-circular shanty that was used for conversation and dancing and entertainment for the whole village.

The Indians who live in the south have shanties that are tapered or wedge-shaped. These huts are made mainly of tulip wood, with a slanting bed inside, so that when a person sleeps, his head is turned toward the high ground. The huts of a village are all lined up in a row in the shape of a character, and in front of the huts there is a pergola made of tree trunks. The village headman and the shaman each lived in a hut at either end of the village. Each hut, are living in more than two families, the largest hut, living 30 people to 40 people ranging.
