Society in Xining

As of 2012, there are 33 independent scientific research institutes and 2 non-independent institutes in Xining, including two under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS): Qinghai Salt Lake Research Institute of CAS and Northwest Plateau Biological Research Institute of CAS. There are 88 scientific and technological societies, with 43,500 members; 21,885 scientific and technological personnel, including 593 senior professional and technical titles, intermediate 6,524 people.

Since the reform and opening up, the city **** won three national scientific and technological progress awards, 95 provincial and ministerial level, 433 municipal level. As of 2012, the city had 10 amateur sports schools at all levels, six children's soccer clubs, four table tennis clubs, and 17 schools for traditional sports programs, with nearly 3,000 trainees. The Tour of Qinghai Lake International Road Cycling Race began in 2002 and is held in Qinghai Province from July to August every year. Approved by the International Cycling Union, the Tour is a 2.HC class, the top race in Asia and the highest altitude international road cycling race in the world. It is second only to the Tour de France, Giro d'Italia, Tour of Spain and other professional tours. Focusing on plateau medicine, ethnomedicine and endemic diseases, it has carried out various scientific research activities and strengthened the development of plateau plants and animals as well as Chinese and Tibetan medicinal resources. Has collated and published 11 Tibetan medicine masterpieces, many Tibetan medicine scientific research achievements reach the domestic leading or advanced level, some Tibetan medicine has gone to the international market. Now there is one Tibetan hospital in the city***, with more than 150 beds and 238 health technicians and employees.
