Hemp Fabric in Textiles of Han Dynasty
Hemp fabrics unearthed in Han Dynasty are the best unearthed from Mawangdui Han Tomb. We have linen and ramie cloth. The warp and weft density of ramie cloth is 37 pieces per cm, which is about 23 liters. Its fineness is close to modern fine cloth, and its surface has a dark light. It was identified to contain inorganic substances such as copper, mercury and calcium. Similar to the modern kick-off process, the surface of the fabric has a shiny effect. This shows that the calendering finishing technology of fabric has been mastered in the early Han Dynasty.
