What should I do if the floor drain forgets to install a trap?

Floor drain is an indispensable drainage facility in our home. Once you forget to install it in the trap, it will lead to problems such as difficult cleaning and unpleasant smell. So how to deal with it?

First of all, we need to be clear about the role of traps. Trap is a part of floor drain, and its function is to form a certain amount of water seal after drainage, which can effectively prevent the drain from transmitting malodorous gas. So if the floor drain forgets to install the trap, it must be installed at this time. Before adding the trap, it is necessary to flush the original drainage pipeline with water to completely remove the dirt accumulated in the drain, especially the sediment and various bacteria.

Next, we can install traps in the following two ways:

1. Install conventional traps: conventional traps can be bought in the market, which is convenient. Just connect the entrance of the trap directly to the drain pipe to prevent the odor of water in the building from overflowing. A platform with a slope higher than that of the drain can be built with triangular planks, and then the outlet of the drain is connected to the water-collecting arrow pipe, then to the joint with the length of 180 degrees, and finally to the sewer.

2. Homemade traps: If there is no economic foundation, it is ok to make traps yourself. Self-made traps need to prepare two plastic water pipe elbows (available in the market), a PVC pipe with a slightly larger diameter of about 20 cm, and some auxiliary materials such as cement, sand and tiles. The concrete steps are as follows: first, connect two elbows at both ends of PVC pipe, and then fix this part on the wall with cement. Then put the ceramic tile and sand in the middle of the PVC pipe and seal both sides of the pipe, so that water can be connected and sealed.

If it is found that the floor drain has forgotten to install the trap, the above method can effectively prevent the unpleasant smell and increase the difficulty of cleaning. At the same time, we should pay more attention in our daily life to prevent similar problems from happening again.
