Measures to make Confucianism orthodox in Han Dynasty

It was Dong Zhongshu who put forward the idea of ousting a hundred schools of thought and respecting Confucianism alone in the first year of Yuanguang (BC 134), and it was implemented in the period of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty. According to the biography of Dong Zhongshu, the original words proposed by Dong Zhongshu were "Expose and criticize Confucius and suppress a hundred schools of thought." In Ji Zan of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, it is recorded that the practice of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty is to "oust a hundred schools of thought and respect the Six Classics alone". This thought is not the true face of Confucianism in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. Instead, it combines some thoughts of Taoism, Legalism and Yin-Yang and Five Elements, embodies the characteristics of "compatibility" and "development" of Confucianism, and is a new idea that keeps pace with the times. It maintained the feudal ruling order and deified the absolute monarchy, so it was highly praised by the ancient feudal rulers and Confucian scholars in China and became the orthodox and mainstream thought of China traditional culture for more than 2,000 years.

In the modern history of China, Yi Baisha (1886- 192 1), a famous thinker at the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, first revealed that "a hundred schools of thought were ousted and Confucianism was respected exclusively", and it was published in 19 16 in New Youth magazine.
