One day in 1980, Yu Yang, the director of the movie "The Handcuffed Passenger", made a phone call to Wang Liping, asking him if he was willing to produce music for his own movie, saying that if he wrote the song, Wang Liping would open the door to feature film music composition, and that he would only be allowed to succeed in his endeavors.

Though it was a joke, Wang Liping still felt the weight of it. But once he read the script, Wang Liping was a little bit of a dilemma. At that time, the fashionable pop singing was in the ascendant, but the characters and subject matter of the movie determined that its music could not be foreign, could not follow the trend.

The crew was in a small place in Yunnan, and Wang Liping had to take a bus for 5 days and 5 nights from Yunnan to the place where the crew was located, and "Camel Bells" was created in these 5 days, and he used the traditional pipa and erhu. When he arrived in Kunming, Wang Liping sang the created "Camel Bell" to everyone and talked about his understanding of "Camel Bell" until everyone was in tears.
