Yunnan geography and culture

Yunnan is a plateau mountainous province, which belongs to the southern extension of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The terrain is roughly bounded by Yuanjiang Valley and the wide valley in the southern section of Yunling Mountain Range, which is divided into two major terrain areas: east and west. The Yunnan Plateau in the east of Yunnan, referred to as Yunnan Plateau for short, is a part of Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, with large topographic relief, with an average elevation of about 2000 meters. It is characterized by gently undulating low mountains and round hills, and various types of karst topography are developed. The west is the longitudinal valley area of Hengduan Mountains, where mountains and deep valleys alternate, with large relative height difference and steep terrain. The altitude in the south is generally1500-2,200m, and that in the north is 3000-4000m.

Only in the southwest border area, the terrain is gradually flat and the valley is wide. Generally, the altitude is 800- 1000 meters, and some areas drop below 500 meters. It is the main tropical and subtropical region in Yunnan Province. The whole terrain of the province is inclined from northwest to southeast, and the rivers are fanned to the east, southeast and south respectively. There is a great difference in altitude in the whole province. The highest point is Kage Peak, which is the main peak of Meili Snow Mountain in Nvshan Mountain range of Deqin County at the border of Yunnan and Tibet, with an altitude of 6740 meters. The lowest point is at the confluence of nanxi river and Yuanjiang in Hekou County bordering Vietnam, with an altitude of only 76.4 meters. The linear distance between the two places is about 900 kilometers, and the height difference is more than 6000 meters.

Yunnan is the province with the largest number of ethnic minorities in China. * * * Ethnic minorities 5 1(25 ethnic minorities have inhabited areas with a population of over 5,000), of which 15 is endemic to Yunnan. Traveling in Yunnan, people are intoxicated not only by the scenery, but also by the unique ethnic flavor. Colorful costumes, colorful festivals, unique residential buildings, strange religious beliefs, beautiful and mysterious myths and legends are all fascinating.

Every donkey who goes to Yunnan should look and listen with appreciation. Perhaps the living environment and lifestyle of many ethnic minorities are "backward and unfamiliar" to modern urbanites, but please understand them, which is their home and traditional lifestyle for generations. No matter what religion you believe in, it is mainly good for people. Struggling to survive in the reinforced concrete urban forest, we should be moved that many traditional simple virtues are disappearing or have disappeared, but they are natural here.

There is a way. I hope that every donkey who travels to Yunnan will do as the Romans do and truly appreciate and feel the charm of all ethnic groups in the south of Caiyun.
