Percussion: one of the names of the classification of musical instruments. Any musical instrument that makes sound by hitting or striking (except for stringed instruments) is collectively called percussion (instrument). Opera is known as the martial field. Most percussion instruments have a definite tone, even the tone of the drum. However, percussion instruments are generally categorized by whether an instrument has a definite pitch.

However, some percussionists determine the pitch of their drums before recording or playing a special piece. Gongs come in both pitch-determined and pitch-undefined varieties, with Western gongs generally having no pitch determination. Suspended cymbals are also available with a defined pitch, but are rare.
