According to the report of Influence and Elimination of Chloride Ion in Water on Determination of Ammonia Nitrogen in 2009, when the chloride ion concentration is greater than 1 100mg/L, the data of ammonia nitrogen stripper has exceeded the allowable range of standard sample. The higher the chloride ion concentration, the worse the separation effect of ammonia nitrogen in ammonia nitrogen stripper. When the chloride ion content reaches 2000mg/L, the effect of ammonia nitrogen stripper will be weakened by 77.9%.

The research report published by the National Defense Environmental Protection Agency of the United States pointed out that when ammonia nitrogen stripper is used to treat wastewater containing high concentration of chloride ions, the atmosphere has little influence on chloride ions, but the copper catalyst in the tower has strong adsorption capacity for chloride ions, which is easy to poison the catalyst, thus reducing the removal efficiency of ammonia nitrogen.
