What is a base station antenna? What is a smart antenna? Are they the same?
Smart antenna is a two-way antenna installed in the base station. Directionality can be obtained by a set of fixed antenna elements with programmable electronic phase relationship, and the directional characteristics of each link between the base station and the mobile station can be obtained at the same time. The principle of smart antenna is to guide the radio signal to a specific direction and generate a spatially oriented beam, so that the main beam of the antenna is aligned with the direction of arrival (DOA) of the user signal, and the sidelobe or zero point is aligned with the direction of arrival of the interference signal, thus making full use of the mobile user signal and deleting or suppressing the interference signal.
Therefore, the smart antenna can be a base station antenna.
