What does the blank space in Chinese painting represent?
Blank space in Chinese painting is one of its unique expressions. Blank is an image space obtained through the aesthetic association and imagination of the appreciator. It is consistent with China's ancient Taoist thought, traditional aesthetic consciousness, observation and memory method and artistic expression method, and has distinctive national characteristics.
"No painting is the beauty" is a unique aesthetic of Chinese painting. Compared with other kinds of painting, Chinese painting likes to leave large and small blanks in the picture. These gaps are not unintentional, some suggest the sky, some suggest water, some suggest clouds, and some may say nothing, but a feeling, an impression, or an artistic conception. This kind of blank is called "blank space" in Chinese painting.
