March 23rd and September 9th of the lunar calendar are the birth and death dates of Mazu, regarded as the sea god. Every two days, tens of thousands of Taiwan Province compatriots and local people come to visit Mazu. During the festival, there are Mazu worship, Mazu cultural discussion and handicraft exhibition. You can watch distinctive folk songs and dances and taste Fujian cuisine.

Known as the "Pearl of the Sea", Meizhou Island is the hometown of Mazu, a famous marine goddess, and has a unique Mazu culture. There are more than 4,000 Mazu Tempel chapters in more than 20 countries and regions around the world, with more than 200 million followers. There are more than 800 Mazu Tempel in Taiwan Province province alone, with more than 4 million followers/kloc-0, accounting for two-thirds of the total population on the island.

Since opening to the outside world, more than1000000 people have made pilgrimages to Meizhou Island every year, including100000 Taiwan Province compatriots, especially on March 23rd and September 9th of the lunar calendar, which are Mazu's birthday and ascension day respectively, with unprecedented scale.
