October 31 every year is a traditional Western holiday, Halloween. "Halloween" is also known as "ghost festival". It is one of the festivals with a long history in the West. It is said that, as early as in B.C., living in the British Isles, Ireland, France, the Celts every October 31st will be held for the disabled and the darkness of the gods to celebrate. On this night, they prepared many delicious dishes for the good ghosts to eat, as well as bonfires on the hills in the wilderness, so that the bright flames would invoke the good ghosts and drive away the demons. This was probably the earliest form of the Ghost Festival. Later, the "Ghost Festival" and Christianity combined to become a traditional festival of the saints, and renamed "Halloween", scheduled for November 1 every year. Later, this festival gradually spread from Europe to North America and some other parts of the world.

The origin of Halloween

On this day, both children and adults can do whatever they want to do without attracting strange looks. Most families set up a few pumpkins or life-size scarecrows in their yards and decorate windows with tiny pumpkin lights or a skeleton; some people hang cobwebs over their front doors. Some people also hang spider webs over their front doors. Families with youngsters at home may organize costume parties or decorate their homes as haunted houses! Halloween is the third most popular holiday after Christmas and Thanksgiving.

When night falls, children can't wait to dress up in colorful costumes and masks. Some of them are wearing a black tunic, riding a magic broom, pretending to be a witch; some wrapped in a white sheet pretending to be a ghost; some wearing a hat painted with a skull and crossbones flag pretending to be a pirate; a lot of children also have a pumpkin in the hands of the Jack-O'-Lantern. Under the moonlight, they came to their neighbors' doors, shouting "Trick or Treat" in a threatening manner, and if someone didn't treat them with candies or change, those mischievous children sometimes painted the pull handle on someone's door or colored someone's cat; these little pranks often made adults laugh. Of course, most people were very happy to entertain these innocent and romantic guests. So as the night wore on, the children returned home with full bellies and full pockets.
