Artistic Characteristics of Daur Uchen

Wuqin was originally composed by the Daur literati in Manchu during the Qing Dynasty and recited in a chanting tone of narrative poetry, and later folk artists orally sang and performed these works, Wuqin has gradually evolved into a variety of music and art containing the meaning of the story chanting or story-telling. The first performances of Uchin were mostly lip-synched, but later there were cases where artists used the huachangs (ukuleles) to play and sing their own songs. The tunes sung were also enriched, and in addition to the original chanting tunes, narrative song tunes and small singing tunes were also used in the performances. Wuchin's program is rich in content, there are stories about the national hero Mozhigen, reflecting love and married life, singing the landscape of the hometown, but also to tell the myths, fairy tales and legends. Among these programs, the stories reflecting the historical achievements of the national hero Mo Rigen, the epic character of "Shao Lang and Dai Fu" and the stories adapted from the Han classics "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" and "Water Margin" are the most popular among the Daur people. The capacity of the program varies from a few days to several nights for the longest, and from a few minutes to several hours for the shortest.

Traditional Uchen performances during the New Year's festivals and auspicious celebrations, the general audience gathered in the people's homes on the bed, sitting cross-legged to listen to the entertainers rapping. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, a large number of works singing the new life and new times, such as the color hot self-written and performed by the Uchen repertoire "singing hero Huang Jiguang", "Motherland Mother", "Ode to Beijing" and the late famous Uchen artist He Rigtu self-written and performed by the origin of an iron bucket, "since I saw Chairman Mao" and so on.
