In 2008, Juye County was named the hometown of Kirin in China by China Folk Writers Association, and a research base of Kirin culture in China was established in Juye County. In June of the same year, the legend of Kirin in Juye County was included in the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage representative list by the State Council. Kirin dance is one of the local traditional programs in Tangxia Town, Dongguan. It is an important folk custom to integrate music, dance, art and martial arts acrobatics into festive activities.
Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty changed the title of "White Green", built the Kirin Pavilion and gave the princes platinum. The prime minister of Song Taizong Kirin came to congratulate him. He got the unprecedented big Kirin as a mascot, which was often used by the ancient dynasties of China. Historically, Liang Wudi built the Kirin Pavilion in Weiyang Palace to draw a heroic image, and Kirin was often used as the unicorn in official clothes. In the Qing dynasty, only the royalty were qualified to wear the dragon symbol. The emperor is the prince of Huanglong and Zilong, formerly called Beizi.
