Chapter I General Provisions

Article 1 (Purpose of Legislation) In order to strengthen the protection and management of the famous historical and cultural cities in Beijing, inherit and carry forward the excellent historical and cultural traditions, and to promote the coordinated development of the city's urban construction with the economy and the society, and based on the laws and regulations on urban and rural planning and cultural relics protection of the State, and taking into account the actual situation of this city

Article 2

Article 2 (Scope of Application) These regulations shall apply to the protection and management of the old city, historical and cultural reserves, and protected buildings in the historical and cultural cities of Beijing; and the protection and management of immovable cultural relics shall be carried out in accordance with the laws and regulations on the protection of cultural relics, in addition to these regulations.

The people's governments of the districts and counties shall unify and lead the protection and management of the famous historical and cultural cities in Beijing under their jurisdiction.

Article 5 (Funding) The people's governments of cities, districts and counties shall set up special funds for the protection of famous historical and cultural cities in Beijing, which shall be included in the budget of the local government.

The city encourages all units and individuals to participate in the protection of famous historical and cultural cities in Beijing in the form of investment, donation or funding.

Chapter VI Legal Liability

Chapter VII Supplementary Provisions
