The Negative Influence of China Traditional Culture on Modern China Society

Negative effects:

In the final analysis, the traditional culture of China is mainly the culture of ancient China society. Just as the cultural creation of any era and any nation is limited by historical conditions, it is inevitable that there are weaknesses and deficiencies. Although the traditional culture created by our ancestors in ancient society is brilliant, there are also many feudal, patriarchal, autocratic and conservative factors that will have a negative impact on our lives.

First, the negative influence of patriarchal factors. China traditional culture attaches importance to the coordination between family and family members, which has its own advantages. However, in ancient China, the family always maintained the characteristics of patriarchal clan system, with the eldest son's right of inheritance as the axis, and parents had autocratic privileges. This paternalistic dictatorship pattern forms the foundation of the whole society. The feudal country is an expanded family, and the monarch is an expanded autocratic parent. For this reason, Confucianism designed five relationships: monarch, minister, father and son, couple, brother and friend, and later put forward the so-called "three cardinal guides", that is, the monarch is the minister's cardinal guide, the father is the child's cardinal guide and the husband is the wife's cardinal guide. It is stipulated that ministers, sons and wives must absolutely obey the monarch, father and husband. Therefore, the whole feudal society is not only family-centered, but also closely covered with a feudal ethical network with "three cardinal guides and five permanents" as the core and hierarchical concept as the feature. This paternalistic style, hierarchical concept and dictatorship in China's traditional culture are incompatible with the modern democratic concept and system of equality for all, which hinders the formation of our democratic consciousness and atmosphere to some extent. Therefore, it is necessary to democratize and legalize traditional culture.

Second, the negative impact of irrational factors. Although China made scientific and technological achievements in ancient times, including four great inventions, feudal rulers in past dynasties actually regarded science and technology as a small skill and a strange skill, and thought that "a villain can do it", and gentlemen disdained it. Because feudal rulers despised the value of science and technology and scientific and technological personnel, most scholars focused on reading classics, which made the development of science and technology lose its internal driving force. At the same time, in China, the traditional way of thinking emphasizes intuition and experience, ignoring abstract thinking and theoretical creation, which is not conducive to the development of science and technology. In addition, many contents in China's traditional culture are superstitious, which has long been ignorant of the general public and poisoned their hearts. These anti-science factors are not conducive to the cultivation of our scientific spirit and the improvement of scientific literacy, and are also not conducive to the development of science and technology in China. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out rational, scientific and technological transformation of traditional culture.

Third, the negative impact of conservative factors. In China's traditional culture, although there is always an ideological spark that emphasizes innovation and enterprising, the ancients' overall world outlook believes in the cosmology of "the sky remains unchanged and the Tao remains unchanged". Respecting the past and cherishing the present is the universal mentality of the whole ancient society. Respecting the past and neglecting the present often shows blind respect for tradition and is lighter than innovation. Therefore, in ancient China, "one is used to it" was regarded as a virtue, while "normative innovation" was often dismissed as "deviant". This anti-progressive factor in China's traditional culture has resulted in people's conformism, complacency and blind xenophobia. We often hear people sigh that "people's hearts are not ancient", in fact, "ancient" is used as the standard to evaluate moral level. The orientation of respecting the past and ignoring the present will hinder the formation of our innovative consciousness and pioneering spirit, and is also not conducive to the cultivation of our competitive concept and open consciousness. Therefore, we should reinterpret traditional culture with creative spirit, pioneering courage, competitive concept and open consciousness.

The backward and negative ideas and social psychology in China's traditional culture are rooted in China's closed small-scale peasant economy, patriarchal clan system, autocratic bureaucrats and family-oriented lifestyle. Although the economic, political, cultural and social life style of China today has undergone fundamental changes compared with that of ancient society, tradition is a huge inertial force, and its negative impact is difficult to completely eliminate in a short time. In this regard, we should have enough understanding, be alert and avoid the negative impact of traditional culture.

In short, many traditional cultures are the same body of essence and dross, which should be treated dialectically.
