Ancient painting
The main raw materials of ancient paint in China are tung oil and paint (cut from a plant), which is why I call it paint now. These ancient paints are still in use now, mainly for the restoration of wooden handicrafts or some ancient buildings. Although ancient paints came from plants, they were not completely nontoxic, and they would have allergic reactions if exposed for a long time. Asphalt is also an ancient paint (Noah's Ark was painted with asphalt).
The main components of modern coatings are synthetic resins (petrochemical products), such as epoxy resin and polyurethane resin.
The performance of synthetic resin used in modern coatings is better than that of vegetable resin, and the output is large, so the coatings you can see are basically chemical products.
