For hand painting rocks or shoe t-shirts, do you usually go with acrylic or print paints?

Acrylic paint is a new type of painting pigment made of a chemical synthetic emulsion (containing acrylate, methacrylate, acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, as well as thickeners, fillers, etc.) mixed with color particles. Printing and dyeing paint refers to the pigment color paste used for textile dyeing or printing. The particle size is about 0.3-0.8 micron, the solid content is about 30-40%, it is using the pigment surface treatment technology to make the pigment particles tend to be hydrophilic, and then dispersed in water with all kinds of anionic or non-ionic dispersant and thickening agent to become a stable pigment dispersion color paste.

Printing and dyeing pigments can be used for dyeing cellulose and various blended/chemical fibers, generally dyeing medium to light colors, with good color fastness, but not used for dyeing dark colors, because dyeing dark colors requires a large amount of binder/cross-linking agent, which will result in a rough and hard hand.

The biggest use of printing pigment in textile is pigment printing, which accounts for 80% of all printing pigment. Because of the simple process, it is the main printing process in textile printing at present.

The difference between pigment and dye is that most kinds of dyes are completely dissolved in the printing or dyeing medium in molecular state, and finally penetrate into the molecular gap of fiber after printing and dyeing process, and combine with fiber in chemical and physical form to become part of fiber.

And pigments, no matter how small the particle size, are dispersed in solid particles in the dyeing/printing medium, the final combination with the fiber is attached to the fiber surface, is a separate mechanical physical combination.
