What are the famous buildings in Dongguan?
Xicheng Tower, also known as Ying 'en Gate Tower, is located in the center of Guancheng District. Built in the 17th year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (1384), it is a landmark building and cultural relic protection unit in Dongguan.
At that time, it was one of the four towers in the southeast and northwest of Dongguan, so it was commonly known as Xicheng Tower.
There used to be a wall connecting Daoguan Mountain, Chengnan Mountain, Mengbo Mountain, East Gate and North Gate, with a total length of 1.299 feet, surrounding Dongguan City, which was firm, tall and majestic.
Today, Ying 'en Gate Tower is still standing, with red walls and blue tiles, cornices and arches, which are spectacular, and its well-preserved Ming Dynasty pedestal is particularly precious.
Yingen West Gate has always been a symbol of the ancient city of Dongguan and an important coordinate of a famous historical and cultural city. The cultural square next to it is a display of Dongguan's new atmosphere in the new century. Green grass, fountains and graceful songs constitute the grand scene of Dongguan in the new era.
The Baoenmen Gate Tower and Cultural Square show the new atmosphere of Dongguan's historical and cultural city.
Cultural relics and historic sites complement each other with modern cultural facilities, which has certain historical value and appreciation value.
According to legend, during the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty, Japanese pirates often came here to plunder. At that time, there was nothing around Dongguan, so a general named Chang Cai led the army and civilians to build a wall, four gates in the east, west, north and south, surrounding Dongguan and the whole West Tower.
The wall is 1299 feet long and surrounds the whole city of Dongguan. When the city gate is closed, pirates will not be able to enter the city.
Moreover, this city wall also has the function of flood control. When there is a flood in summer, the city gate is blocked with sandbags, which can protect the city from being flooded and really make the people rich.
Therefore, the people of Dongguan have deep feelings for this tower. Even though the urban area is ever changing, they are always reluctant to tear down this ancient urban building. Now they have invested heavily in transforming the surrounding area into Ximen Cultural Square, which has become an important place for citizens' entertainment and festivals to hold large-scale activities.
