What was Lu Ban known as by his descendants?
Lu Ban, surnamed Gong输, was known as General. He was also known as Gong输子, Gong输盘, Ban输, and Lu般. He was a native of the state of Lu (the capital city of Qufu in Shandong Province, and his hometown was Tengzhou in Shandong Province), and his names "般" and "班" are homophonic and were commonly used in ancient times, so people often called him Lu Ban. He was born in the thirteenth year of King Jing of Zhou (507 B.C.) and died in the twenty-fifth year of King Zhending of Zhou (444 B.C.). He lived in the end of Spring and Autumn Period and the beginning of the Warring States Period, and was born in a family of craftsmen for many generations, and he followed his family to take part in many civil engineering and construction works since he was a child, and he gradually mastered the skills of production work and accumulated a wealth of practical experience.
