What are the masterpieces of Chinese literature
1. Water Margin
Water Margin, one of China's four great masterpieces, is a chapter-length novel with Song Jiang's uprising at the end of the Northern Song Dynasty as the main backdrop, and the type of heroic saga. The author or editor is generally considered to be Shi Nai'an, and most of the surviving publications are signed by one or both of Shi Nai'an and Luo Guanzhong.
The book is a magnificent story of the resistance of the Liang Shan heroes to oppression, the growth of Liang Shan and its surrender to the imperial court, and the suppression of the political forces that rebelled against the Song government, such as Tian Hu, Wang Qing, and Fang La, which led to a tragic defeat after surrendering to the imperial court.
Artistically reflecting the whole process of Song Jiang's uprising in Chinese history from its occurrence, development to its failure, it profoundly reveals the social roots of the uprising, enthusiastically glorifies the resistance of the uprising heroes and their social ideals, and also concretely reveals the inherent historical reasons for the failure of the uprising.
2. The Romance of the Three Kingdoms
The Romance of the Three Kingdoms is one of the Four Great Classical Novels of China, and is China's first full-length historical novel in chapters, written by Luo Guanzhong, a famous novelist of the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties.
The Romance of the Three Kingdoms uses characters as a vehicle to visualize and interpret the basic spirit of traditional Chinese culture, i.e., benevolence, righteousness, courtesy, wisdom, trust, courage and other core elements of the value system of traditional Chinese culture. Through the stories of Wei, Shu and Wu, it reveals the law of historical development that "the world will be divided and divided for a long time".
The ideological tendency of "supporting Liu and opposing Cao" runs through the work from the beginning to the end, reflecting the people's desire to support a bright ruler and aspire to peace, and their hatred of tyrants and opposition to turmoil.
3. Journey to the West
The Journey to the West is the first long, romanticized novel of the gods and demons in ancient China. Existing Ming publication of the hundred books "Journey to the West" are not signed by the author. Qing Dynasty scholars such as Wu Yuzhong first proposed that the author of Journey to the West was Wu Cheng'en of the Ming Dynasty. This novel is based on the historical event of "the monk fetching scriptures", and through the author's artistic processing, it profoundly depicts the social reality at that time.
The content of Journey to the West is the most complex among the classical Chinese novels. It integrates the ideas and contents of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism, not only letting the immortals of Buddhism and Taoism perform on the stage at the same time, but also injecting the human situation of the real society into the world of gods and Buddhas, and sometimes interjecting a few Confucian quotations, making it seem both solemn and harmonious, and the wonderful fun has made the book win the love of readers of all cultural levels.
The Journey to the West is a Han Chinese folklore text that mixes elements of religion and myth, superstition and magic, a form of text that undergoes a long historical time of collective creation and final individual processing. The comedic mockery and irony of the three value systems of Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism highlights the deconstruction of the dominant ideology and the collapse of spiritual beliefs in the late period of ancient Chinese society as the commodity economy sprouted and tapered off.
The mythological world constructed by Journey to the West, in which religion is a metaphor for totalitarian rule over the spirit and psyche, is interpreted as a symbol of imperial power. Thus the consciousness of imperial power and mythological thinking are logically allied in the religious art text, giving birth to a religious politics and a politicized religious model.
