Zhangye Muta Temple Composition 530
Muta Temple, also known as Manjuji, is located in Nanjie County, Zhangye City, and is now located in the campus of Zhangye Middle School. The temple and tower were first built in the Northern Zhou Dynasty or earlier, and were rebuilt in the Sui, Tang, Ming and Qing Dynasties. According to the Inscription on Rebuilding Manjuji, "When Sakyamuni was cremated, Samadhi got 84,000 pieces of Buddhist relics. Ashoka built a tower for each bottle, and Ganzhou Wooden Tower is one of them. " According to Ganzhenzhi, it was built in the last week, rebuilt in the second year of Emperor Kai of Sui Dynasty (A.D. 582), built by the governor in the thirteenth year of Tang Dynasty (A.D. 639), and repaired in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Its architectural skills are combined with those of carpenters, ironworkers and painters, and it is beautifully made. It has a history of 1000 years. The wooden tower is one of the five elements (gold, wood, water, fire and earth) towers in Zhangye City.
