Wong Kar-wai's film Chongqing Forest has nothing to do with Chongqing. Why did it take this name?

"Chongqing Forest" is the third film directed by Wong Kar-wai, and it is also a film in which he and Tony Leung Chiu Wai cooperate again, opening the way for Tony Leung Chiu Wai to become an out-of-control actor. Chongqing Forest is by no means as complete and restrained as a traditional commercial film. On the contrary, he made great achievements in artistic expression. Wong Kar-wai reflected the living conditions of the whole Hong Kong people in his eyes through two love stories.

Wong Kar-wai is a very self-centered director. He never made movies to please the audience, just to convey himself. In the past life, some subtle feelings and memories can make him spend a lot of energy making movies. Chongqing Forest was inspired by a building where Wong Kar-wai lived as a child: chungking mansions. Business and residence mix there, and people from all walks of life are here. One day, Wong Kar-wai saw the rushing crowd in the elevator, so he made a movie about the survival of Hong Kong people.

The film consists of two opposing stories. The first story is directed by Takeshi Kaneshiro and Brigitte Lin, and Takeshi Kaneshiro plays a policeman who loves love. For a whole month, he was completely immersed in the sadness of love. A drug-trafficking killer in the corner of Brigitte Lin never pretends to be brave and cunning, but in fact he is full of exhaustion. Two people met unexpectedly in a bar, spent a very ambiguous night, and then started their own lives.

Has nothing to do with the first story. The second story is about the love story of two lonely people during the day, but this time it is more sunny and gentle. Tony Leung Chiu Wai is a policeman who has just fallen in love. Although he can never forget his past feelings, he still lives his life bravely. A girl who makes a living in a corner fast food restaurant in Faye Wong has a feeling for Tony Leung Chiu Wai because of the gap in love. This may be the ideal life that Wong Kar-wai has given Hong Kong people.
