Can moonstone be used as jewelry? Bracelet pinch?
Moonstone is usually colorless to white and transparent to translucent. It is characterized by its luminous effect from a certain point of view, and almost all of them are composed of two (or more) feldspar, usually orthoclase and albite. Some moonstones contain quite a lot of albite, and their properties are closer to albite than orthoclase. But on the whole, moonstone thinks it is a variety of orthoclase.
The varieties of moonstone are: ice-long moonstone, translucent and cloud-shaped. After cutting into curved surface, it is colorful, showing a sky-blue milky luster, also known as "Guimoonstone". Sodium moonstone is albite with pearl luster, or albite with moonstone characteristics. Elongated moonstone, Labrador with moonstone characteristics, this moonstone has blue light with yellow and earthy tones. Korean moonstone is a mixed moonstone. In addition, Sri Lankan opal, wolf's eye stone, water protein, fisheye and so on. It also belongs to the moonstone variety.
Moonstone has been used as a gem for centuries. In many parts of the world, people believe that wearing Buddhist scriptures can bring good luck. In India, the moonstone is still considered as a sacred stone, and it is only worn on sacred yellow clothes. In ancient times, people believed that it could awaken the gentle enthusiasm of lovers and give them the power to look forward to the future. Today, the moonstone is used as a birthday jewel in June.
Good moonstone requires crystal transparency, pearl luster similar to swimming color or bright milky luster, preferably sky blue or pigeon blue feather luster. Moonstone with beautiful milky light is also a precious gem.
Materials that are easily confused with moonstone include chalcedony, crystal, opal, glass, plastic and so on.
Although the surfaces of chalcedony and opal are similar to moonstone, chalcedony has never had the strange floating effect of moonstone. Opal lacks the directional brilliance of characteristic cryolite light, and its refractive index and specific gravity are obviously lower than moonstone. However, glass and plastic have no cleavage trace, and they are isotropic and easy to distinguish.
Moonstone is a kind of crystal, and its maintenance can follow the crystal maintenance method-for example, it can be purified with pure water, and you can enjoy a moonlight bath when the moonlight is bright.
Moonstone and sunstone can be used as jewelry.
