Difference and connection between SDH, MSTP, OTN and PTN

Differences:

1. Different technologies used:

SDH: The technology used is to provide the appropriate level of information structure through the transmission of digital signals at different rates.

MSTP: is more advanced SDH, is based on SDH to transmit Ethernet.

OTN: uses wave division technology.

PTN: uses packet-switched technology.

2. Different applications:

SDH: IP service, ATM service.

MSTP: rich variety of bandwidth services.

OTN: Provide network protection and improve security.

PTN: Suitable for a variety of coarse and fine-grained services, end-to-end networking capabilities.

3. Different principles:

SDH: mapping, positioning and multiplexing.

MSTP: The traditional SDH multiplexer, digital cross link (DXC), WDM terminals, network layer 2 switches and lP edge routers and other independent devices into a single network device for unified control and management.

OTN: Transmission, multiplexing, routing, and monitoring of service signals are realized in the optical domain, and its performance index and survivability are guaranteed.

PTN: A level is set up between IP services and the underlying optical transport medium, which is designed for the requirements of bursty and statistical multiplexing transmission of packet service traffic, with packet service as the core and supporting multi-service provision.
