Tianyi Pavilion

Tianyi Pavilion, located in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, is the oldest private library in China and even in Asia, and arguably the earliest existing private library in China. This library was built in the Ming Dynasty. The original owner was Fan Qin, a retired right minister of the Ministry of War in the Ming Dynasty. Fan Qin was a book lover. Although he worked in the Ministry of War, he loved books and reading. In this library, Fan Qin traveled all over the world to collect the precious books displayed here. Today's Tianyi Pavilion Library is arguably the oldest library in Asia and one of the three earliest family libraries in the history of the world.

Features of the Tianyi Pavilion

The Tianyi Pavilion is rather special, not only because it is a private collection and contains many rare books, but also because of the beautiful architectural structure of the Pavilion. Some of the carvings and gold-plating techniques in the architectural design not only reflect the beauty of the building, but also the traditional folk craftsmanship. The Tianyige architecture is a collection of folk characteristics of Ningbo in the Ming Dynasty, reflecting the current culture and folklore.

Tianyige Museum

Tianyige Museum is the core part of Tianyige Library, which displays many ancient cultural books.
