Taijiquan's "Eight Methods and Five Steps"

Taijiquan's Eight Methods and Five Steps is a systematic refinement and organization of the General Administration of Sport of the People's Republic of China (GASP), which was established in order to better publicize, promote and popularize the existing styles of taijiquan on the basis of the thirteen core techniques of the existing styles of taijiquan, i.e. arrow-quiver, stroking, squeezing, pressing, picking, holding, elbows and leaning and five footwork methods, i.e. advancing, retreating, guiding, hoping, fixing, and so on. It is a systematic refinement and organization of eight techniques, namely: eight strokes, eight squeezes, eight arrow-quivers, eight presses, eight picks, eight elbows, eight leans, and five steps, namely: advancement, retreat, five steps, and five steps. It has a simple structure, reasonable number of movements, rich connotation, easy to learn and easy to practice, and is a more ideal fitness method. The mnemonic of the eight methods and five steps of Taijiquan is: arrow-quiver, stroke, squeeze, press, pick, pounce, elbow, lean, go forward, go backward, look to the left, hope to the right, and set in the center. The eight methods of Taijiquan are mainly used for offense, while the five steps are mainly responsible for rolling around, which need to be memorized and digested repeatedly in the process of learning Taijiquan. Taijiquan is a perfect combination of the dialectical theoretical thinking of the Chinese nation and martial arts, art, guiding art, traditional Chinese medicine, etc. She takes the dialectical concepts of taiji and yin and yang in the traditional Chinese philosophy of Confucianism and Taoism as the core idea, and combines the functions of nourishing the temperament, strengthening the body and physical fitness, and combating with skill, etc., which is a high-level culture of the human body.

Taijiquan's "Eight Methods and Five Steps" is also called "Thirteen Forms of Taijiquan". It is the most core content of Taijiquan.

The eight methods, "arrow-quiver, stroking, squeezing, pressing, picking, poking, elbows, leaning", refers to the eight kinds of strength. In fact, there are countless kinds of "strength", here is just a general summary. The difference is according to the direction and distance.

Five steps, "into, back, Gu, hope, fixed".

It should actually be "five parts," referring to the five parts, "hand technique, eye technique, body technique, leg technique, and footwork."

The eight methods contain the manipulation and legwork.

"In and out" is footwork!

"Gu Pan" with the character "目" is eye technique!

"Gu" means to focus, to stare. The word "han" means "afterglow", a sweeping glance.

"Fix" is the body method!
