The origin of Dai nationality
Dai people originated from Ailao people in the middle and upper reaches of Nujiang River and Lancang River.
Ailao people are one of the ancient humans in Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. Around the fifth century BC, Ailao people established Daguang and other tribal alliances in the middle and upper reaches of Lancang River and Nujiang River. At the end of the second century BC, Daguang Kingdom began to contact with the Han Dynasty. Because the Great Light King at that time was called "Ailao", the Han Dynasty began to call the Great Light Kingdom "Ailao Country".
Prior to this, because the mourners were good at riding elephants, their living environment was similar to that of the Vietnamese in the south of the Han Dynasty, and they were mistaken for a branch of the Vietnamese in the Han Dynasty. Daguangguo was called "Yunnan and Vietnam riding elephants".
Since the first century A.D., the conflict between Dian State in the east of Daguang State and its suzerain (Han Dynasty) has been constant, and a large number of Dian people (also known as "Dian Yue people" because of absorbing Yue culture) have poured into the territory of Ailao. After the Ailao people absorbed and merged with the Dian people, the embryonic form of the modern Dai people was initially formed.
