Architectural Features of Northern Gardens and Southern Gardens

The northern gardens are represented by royal gardens, and their architectural layout is mostly axisymmetric, with large building volume, red walls and yellow tiles, gentle eaves and stable appearance.

The south is represented by Jiangnan gardens, which are mostly built by officials and businessmen: white walls and tiles, cornices and corners, small and exquisite, and pleasant in size.

On the one hand, the difference of landscape architecture between the north and the south is restricted by political culture (strict hierarchy), on the other hand, it is influenced by regional factors (more rainfall in the south and colder in the north).
