Is Live Step Taijiquan Wu Style Taijiquan?
Wu Style Taijiquan is one of the traditional Chinese martial arts. Wu-style Taijiquan is known for its softness and flexibility, and its stance is slanting, loose, static and natural, and moderate in size. When pushing hands, keeping still without moving, it is known for its good transformation. Wu Style Taijiquan is divided into two schools: the southern school is inherited by Grandmaster Wu Jianquan, whose heirs are mainly Wu Gongzao, Wu Gongyi, Wu Yinghua, Ma Yueliang, Xu Zhiyi, etc. The northern school is inherited by Grandmaster Wang Maozhai. The north school is inherited by Wang Maozhai, whose heirs mainly include Wang Jie (Ziying), Wang Tuan (Zichao), Zhao Tiean, Xiu Pixun, Peng Guangyi (Renxuan), Yang Yuting, and so on, and then passed on to Zhao Anxiang, Li Jingwu, Wang Peisheng, Xiu Liang, Xiu Zhanyan, and Zhanbo, etc. Xiu Liang and Xiu Zhanyan also passed on to Xiu Liang and Xiu Zhan, and so on. Xiu Liang and Xiu Zhan in turn passed on to Xiu Shuyu, Cui Yuchen, Zhou Xulin, and so on. Wu style of the Northern School to the south of the spread of Wu Tunan Mo Susanna Long (Mo Fei's son) Mo Fei for Wu Tunan disciples in the 1930s. Susanna Mo is a disciple of Wu in the 1930's. Susanna Mo's main focus is on spreading the Wu style of Southern Style Tai Chi.
Wu Quanyou, a native of Daxing, Hebei Province, absorbed the essence of Yang Lu Chan and Yang Ban Hou's large and small frames of Yang Style Taijiquan after years of painstaking practice, and created a set of what is known as the middle frame style of taijiquan on the basis of Yang Style Taijiquan, which can be said to be the earliest prototype of Wu Style Taijiquan. After decades of melting and expanding by his son, Wu Jianquan, a new style of Taijiquan was formed, which was mainly based on softening, with a compact frame, a delicate style, and a light and rounded style, which is Wu-style Taijiquan.
Wang Maozhai (1862-1940) was a native of Yecheng County, Shandong Province. Old Mr. Wang Maozhai, who lived in Dawuguan Village, Laizhou City, Shandong Province (the former Yecheng County), was the senior brother of Wu Jianquan, the patriarch of Wu Style Taijiquan, and had a very high prestige. There is a book called "Record of the Same Sect" circulating among the disciples of Wu-Style Taijiquan, and the first page is the photo of Mr. Wang, the second page is the photo of Grandmaster Wu Jianquan, and the next page is the photos of the disciples and nephews of the two gentlemen. Mr. Wang had an important influence on the formation of Wu-style Taijiquan.
1. Gloves (or routines): Traditionally, there are 108 styles, divided into slow frame (or knuckle fist, square frame) and fast frame (or round fist, string fist, old frame), and Wu Guangyu, a fifth-generation grandson of Wu, formulated 54 styles of routines in order to conform to international competitions.
2. Knife: The traditional Taiji knife is a single knife with a small body (see "Chinese Chen's Taijiquan" by Chen Xiaowang), but the Wu's Taiji knife has been adopted since the generation of Wu Jianquan as a wider-bodied Ghost Head Knife (or Big Knife). According to Wu Daxin, a fourth generation grandson, the advantages of the Ghost Head Knife are: 1) the protruding point of the back of the knife makes it possible to grasp the body's feeling of the knife when performing the back knife movement; 2) it is more favorable to include the movement of pushing the knife with the left side of the knife; and 3) the heavier Ghost Head Knife is more able to play the purpose of exercising the strength of the knife with the knife method. Wu's Taiji knife ****108 style, another double knife.
3. Sword: Shanghai to Ma Yueliang presided over the Shanghai Jianquan Taijiquan Society sword style for two roads, respectively, said Qiankun, seven stars; Hong Kong to the third grandson of Wu Gongyi presided over the Hong Kong Jianquan Taijiquan Society is the combination of the two roads all the way, ***108 style, the stance is basically the same, both of them are another double sword.
