The right way to memorize new concepts and experience

The new concepts as a classic textbook popular around the world, to see everyone so passionate about it, I am incredibly touched, but to see the way you learn it, as a "memorization" of new concepts of the whole four books, and I am y worried.

Two years ago, I am also a loyal follower of the new concept, after buying the whole set, I can not wait for a month to learn it all, and have tried many methods, such as listening, reading and writing the most traditional methods, the most mentioned in the understanding of the method of memorizing the whole text on the basis of the method of the reverse method and so on, but desperate to learn half a year after the harvest is very little, during which I have more than once to ask myself, recognized as a good textbook, why is not much progress? I asked myself more than once during this period, "Why is there not much progress? The traditional method of memorizing a large number of texts after the effect is not good examples are countless, and then in a New Oriental lecture I suddenly realized that English is not used to learn, not by the brain to memorize on the line, the English language is a language, not a discipline, the only way to conquer it is to mechanically drill until the dragged mouth out; since then I completely changed the concept of the one: loud mechanical Drill. Specific operation is very simple, in reading each text before the words read familiar, and then repeatedly read the text, until the book can be closed dragged out of the mouth, and then understand the meaning of the text, the first read bad after understanding the order is very important, and then the page is torn out of the still off, and then continue to the next lesson, this kind of mechanical drilling with the mouth and the brain with the recitation of the essential difference between the result is almost the same, and finally can be completely recapitulate the text, but the effect is The result is similar, in the end they can repeat the whole text, but the effect is a world of difference.

1: the number of readings is completely different: memorize the second book of a text generally read twenty times can be, memory is good enough to read ten times, but to rely on the mouth to speak out at least 200 times

2: the effect of cultivating a sense of language is completely different: when you use the traditional method of memorizing a text is generally the first of the meaning of the text of the Chinese have a comprehensive understanding of the meaning of the text, and then is completely According to the Chinese understanding of the text and then gradually memorize the English, so long you can never escape the interference of the Chinese language, never learn the real pure English thinking, in the future when you read and listen to English you will naturally have a process of translation from English to Chinese, especially listening to fast and long chapters and read a lot of articles can not speed up, if you start reading English from the beginning of the time when you have developed a Avoiding the meaning of the Chinese language, the pure English thinking, if you can avoid the Chinese meaning of the English language. If you read English from the beginning and avoid Chinese meanings and think purely in English, you will be able to develop a real sense of English language and thinking over time, even though it is a bit difficult at the beginning.

3: can grasp the true essence of the new concept: many people think that the essence of the new concept is the content of its text, so spent a lot of effort to spend a lot of work in the understanding of the basis of memorization of the English language, the understanding of the basis of the process of relying on the Chinese language to put it bluntly, and also advocate what the cycle of memory method, the new concept of the content of all the text are remembered very well, to put it bluntly, is the meaning of the Chinese language as if it is a fingerprint, but it's not. In fact, it is not, those beautiful stories are not the most important, you can not communicate with people every time is the content of the new concept of the text memorized to each other, the important thing is to systematically develop your sense of language and English thinking, when you are not relying on the memory of each piece of text, but repeatedly practiced to the mouth and out of the mouth, over time even if the content of the content are forgotten does not matter at all, because your sense of language and English The only way to develop habits is to practice like crazy, mechanical drilling, not by memorizing the meaning of the new concept text, of course, each text drilling to drag the mouth out after a rough understanding of the general meaning.

4: advantages and disadvantages: the traditional method of memorization to memorize really fast, and mechanical drills to take more time, especially after the third book of the text, some of the crazy mechanical drills a week later to get, at the same time, when your ability to improve in the continued drilling of the next text will inevitably emerge in the mind of the meaning of this article in Chinese, must remember to inhibit its emergence, it's best to read the best sub-points! Mind in the mechanical drilling to drag the mouth and out before the best of the Chinese meaning of the text do not understand, so as not to affect the habit of thinking in English, first read and then understand and first understand the order of reading is particularly important.

5: summarize: "familiar with the reading of the three hundred poems of the Tang Dynasty, will not do poetry will also chant" in the emphasis is also familiar with the reading, rather than by memory recitation, many people have memorized the new concepts or other textbooks, time and energy spent a lot of time and energy, but in the end the effect is still not up, even if he cycle and then memorized, but also at most the contents of the new concepts remembered, and language sense effect is not good. The effect of the sense of language is not good, and in reading and listening to English silently developed the problem of English to Chinese, reading and listening can never further speed and improve, because he will be too much attention to reading and listening to the meaning of a single word, but if you go up to the English language thinking even if there are a lot of words and phrases you can continue to read and listen to, because you have no habit of English to Chinese!

What is the point of having a good time?

When I tore my book to the third book of 30 lessons when I passed the fourth grade, three books just tore through the sixth grade with a score of 78 through, and now I'm basically finished tearing the fourth book

The first few books of the text of the Chinese roughly the meaning of the book also forgot a lot, but know that the level of English than those who rely on the traditional recitation around the text of the content of the memorization of a lot of students to remember deep strong, after the completion of the fourth book I'm going to use the same method to mechanically drill the VOA. I'm going to use the same method to mechanically drill VOA after I finish the fourth book. In addition, I agree with Li Yang's tape method of listening, as long as your sense of language and habits of thinking in English are developed, there is no problem of listening, a VOA is enough to let you know all the hyphenated, swallowed sound and other habits.

Ku Hongming, who was well versed in the languages and cultures of nine countries, had been awarded as many as 13 doctoral degrees for his profound attainments in Chinese studies. His thought influence spanned the 20th century in the East and West, is a scholar of Chinese and Western, literature and science, and is the modern secondary school in the history of the West, the pioneering figure.

When Koo was 10 years old, he jumped onto Scottish soil with his righteous father, the Englishman Brown, and was sent to a famous local high school, where he received extremely strict training in English literature. After school, Brown personally taught Koo to learn German. Brown's method of teaching was slightly different from the Western tradition, rather like a Chinese private school. He asked Koo to recite Goethe's poem Faust together with him. Brown told Koo, "There are gods in the West, but very few saints. Gods are born to know, and saints learn to know. In the West, only Goethe is a literary saint and Mauch is a martial saint. To learn German well, you must memorize Goethe's masterpiece, Faust." He always gestured and recited while performing, asking Koo to imitate his movements to memorize the abandonment always joking and laughing, easy and fun. Koo wanted to know what the book Faust was about, but Brown insisted that he would not explain it word for word. He said: "only ask you to read familiar, and do not ask you to understand. If you understand it and then memorize it, your mind will be confused and you will not be able to memorize it well. I will tell you when you have memorized Faust." More than half a year's work Koo Hongming sparingly put a "Faust" roughly memorized.

The next year, Brown began to explain Faust to Koo. He believed that the later the lecture, the deeper the understanding, because the classics are different from ordinary writings, and no one can understand them at once. During this time, Koo did not stop memorizing Faust, and could be said to have "recited it by heart".

After studying Faust, Koo began to study the plays of Shakespeare. Brown set up a program for Koo to learn a play in half a month. Eight months later, see Koo Hongming memorization and comprehension of the fast, the plan was changed to half a month to learn three. In this way, in less than a year, Koo had memorized all 37 of Shakespeare's plays.

Brown thought that Koo's English and German were more advanced than those of a university graduate, and that he would be able to use them in the future. But Koo had only studied poetry and drama, and had not yet formally engaged in prose. Brown arranged for Koo to read Carlyle's masterpiece of history, The French Revolution. This time, Koo basically turned to self-study, slowly reading and memorizing by himself, and then consulting others if he did not understand any words or phrases. But after only three days of reading, Koo cried. Brown was surprised and asked, "What's wrong?" Koo replied, "Prose is not as good as drama." Brown asked Koo again about the progress of memorization and found that he was reading three pages a day, so he was relieved: "You are reading too much every day. Half a page to one page a day is enough for memorizing prose works. Memorizing prose is likewise seeking familiarity rather than speed, and speed without familiarity is the same as not learning."

Koo's secondary school work was extremely heavy, but because of Koo's various subjects in Brown side have laid a foundation in advance, the entire learning process will seem effortless. Since schoolwork went smoothly, Koo went on to memorize Carlyle's The French Revolution when he had nothing else to do. The more he read, the more interested he became, but after reading too much, he could not memorize it. If he followed Brown's instructions and took his time, he couldn't control his curiosity. In this way, he read Carlyle's The French Revolution slowly and slowly. Later, Koo finally obtained his father's permission to read the books in his home. There are many books that Koo did not intend to memorize, but also inadvertently "read".

Brown had high hopes for his adopted son. He once told Koo, "If I were as smart as you are, I would like to be a scholar and save mankind, not a millionaire and benefit myself. Let me tell you, now European countries and the United States want to invade China, but the scholars of European countries and the United States want to study China. I hope that you can learn both Chinese and Western, in order that you can take up the heavy responsibility of strengthening China and educating Europe and America, and be able to show mankind a bright path, so that people can live a life that is truly human!"

According to Brown's plan, Koo should first study literature, history, philosophy and sociology in Britain, and then go to Germany to study science. The first step is to make sure that you have a good understanding of the situation, and that you have a good idea of what you're doing. Brown was not wrong, Koo was fourteen years old, academic attainments have been non-comparable to ordinary people. He only used a short period of four years, not only initially completed the home schooling program drawn up by Brown, but also basically completed the main courses of the middle school. Brown could not help but feel secretly proud of his adopted son's intelligence. Koo had initially mastered Latin and Greek in school, and his grades in all other courses were so outstanding that he could already apply for graduation.

In the spring of 1872, Koo was admitted to the University of Edinburgh. Koo specialized in English literature at the University of Edinburgh, while studying Latin and Greek, and I do not know how many times he cried in secret. He aspired to read all the Greek and Latin literary, historical and philosophical masterpieces in the library of the University of Edinburgh. At the beginning, he read and memorized as many pages as he could, and did not find any difficulty; later, as the amount of reading gradually increased, he gradually felt overwhelmed. He insisted that he must memorize it all the way through. Koo recalled this in his later years and said, "It is strange to say, a pass, like a machine line, a pull open to the head."

Later, not only Greek, Latin, that is, such as France, Russia, Italy, the language and literature of the countries, Koo Hongming can also learn to learn, touching the class. It is said that Koo returned to China, in addition to the national language, can still manipulate nine kinds of text and communication, then its foundation is mainly in the University of Edinburgh when studying to lay down.

The Analects of Confucius? The "Quarterly" has a cloud: "Those who are born to know the talent, the upper. The second is the one who learns and knows. Sleepy animals and learning, and its second. If you are trapped and do not learn, you will be the next in line." As for the meaning of the word "trapped", the old note said that "do not understand", Mr. Qian Mu interpreted as "experiencing difficulties", Koo Hong-ming said that he "can not afford to eat The old note says that "there is no way". He said in his later years: "In fact, I read the main or adhere to the 'trapped animals and learning' method. Over time it is not difficult to master the art of learning, to achieve the 'not also say so' situation. Onlookers only see that I learn more and learn faster, they don't know that I have traded my tears for it! Some people think that good or bad memory is innate. Yes, it is true that there are advantages and disadvantages of human memory, but it is wrong to think that memory cannot be increased. The more the human heart is used the more spiritual it becomes!" Koo Hongming recalled the past events when he was studying, and could not help but sigh: "Sleepy beasts do not learn, the people for the next!" (Zhaowenjun "Mr. Koo Hongming told me the past") then people think that Koo Hongming's erudition lies in his talent smart, Koo Hongming himself is not recognized.

In April 1877, Koo passed all the relevant subject examinations with excellent results, and in the degree examination in English literature and extraordinary performance, successfully obtained the Master of Arts degree from the University of Edinburgh. This year Koo was only 20 years old.

After graduating from the University of Leipzig, Koo went to Paris for a short time to study French. Brown also contacted the University of Paris for Koo, with the intention of letting him learn some of the law pen political science. In fact, at the age of 22, Koo had already studied science, literature and philosophy, and was well versed in the languages of various countries, and his attainments were not comparable to those of ordinary Chinese students studying abroad. Koo read the whole semester's lecture notes and reference books of the University of Paris at a very high speed. In addition to going to the school occasionally to attend some classes of interest, Koo took a little time every day to teach his landlady Greek. From the day he started teaching him the Greek alphabet, Koo taught her to recite a few lines from the Iliad. His landlady laughed and said, "Your method of teaching is so fresh and unheard of." So Koo told her how Brown had taught himself to recite Faust and Shakespeare's plays. She said, "Good, I'll learn it that way." Koo said, "When you have memorized one, you will have to memorize two, and you can't stop them."

Koo's landlady often came to his room with The Iliad, reciting the verses she had learned to him and asking for his guidance. Koo's teaching method was really effective, and his landlady made rapid progress in Greek. Many guests were amazed to see that Koo taught her Greek in a different way.

Koo later said to the late Qing government minister Ling Fupeng, "Learning English is most like the British to teach children the same learning, they learn to recite children's songs from childhood, a little older on the teaching of memorization of poetry and the Bible, like the Chinese teach children to memorize the Four Books and Five Classics." From Koo Hongming taught his landlady to learn the Greek land by the Greek pure initiation education in general. This method at first glance seems to be strong and difficult, but in fact it is not. If by the letters and words and then simply spell sentences, the learner in the psychology of learning a foreign language, the isolation of the emotions. Koo also taught his landlady simple Latin by this method, but only three or two months of work.

Koo's deep Western literacy benefited greatly from his childhood experience of memorizing Faust and Shakespeare. When he was teaching English poetry at Peking University, a student asked him for advice on how to master the West, and he replied, "First memorize a famous work as a foundation." Koo Hung-ming once said, "Today's people read English for ten years, open eyes can only read newspapers, stretching the paper can only repair letters, all from the early years of reading a cat and a dog style textbooks, is to end up with only a small success." He advocated "China's private school teaching method, to open up the long time, that is, read the Four Books and Five Classics, in particular, must be memorized as running water."
