Stories and legends of Dragon Boat Festival in Shandong Plain

Dragon Boat Festival is the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, also known as Duanyang Festival and May Festival. Dragon Boat Festival is one of the legal holidays in China. There are many legends and stories about the Dragon Boat Festival, among which the following three versions are recognized.

(1) in memory of Quyuan's throwing himself into the river

The patriotic poet Qu Yuan jumped into the river. In order to prevent Qu Yuan's body from being eaten by fish and shrimp, people threw rice wrapped in bamboo leaves into the river and competed to find Qu Yuan's body.

(2) Cao E found her father's body.

Cao E, the filial daughter of the Eastern Han Dynasty, shed tears because her father threw himself into the river. 17, she still didn't see her father's body, so she threw herself into the river on May 1 7. After that, the two bodies folded and floated, which moved the villagers to commemorate.

(3) The anniversary of Wu Zixu's death.

After Wu Zixu helped Wu attack Chu, He Lv died and Fu Cha succeeded to the throne. He believed that the traitor committed suicide in Wu Zixu because of the main battle in Wu Zixu, and threw the body into the river on May 5th. People will commemorate Wu Zixu on this day.

Customs of Dragon Boat Festival: Dragon boat racing and eating zongzi are the main customs of Dragon Boat Festival. In addition, it is the custom of Dragon Boat Festival to hang purse, five-color silk thread, bell and idol.
