English introduction to the British royal family

British royal family

The British royal family is a shared royal family. This article describes the royal family from the perspective of Britain. In some other common wealth fields, the concept, function and status of the royal family are similar, but their historical and cultural significance may be different. For royal information in other fields, please see Other Fields.

Close relatives of British monarchs are called royalty. Although there is no strict law or formal definition of who is or is not a member of the royal family [1], different lists will include different people, and those with the words His Majesty (HM) or His Highness (HRH) are usually regarded as members, which usually leads to the application of this term to these people:

Sovereign (king or queen);

The monarch's spouse (his or her spouse);

Widowed spouse of the former monarch (Queen Mother or Empress Dowager);

Children of the monarch;

Grandchildren of the monarch;

The spouse and widowed spouse of the monarch's son and paternal grandson; and

Before 19 17, the great-grandson of the male line.

The present British royal family is a member of the Windsor family.

Collateral of the British royal family

Descendants (or widows) of young children of Queen Victoria, King Edward VII and King George V.

Count Harewood (grandson of King George V through his daughter Princesse Marie), his second wife, his children, grandchildren, and descendants of his now late brother Gerald lascelles.

The Duke of Fife (the great grandson of King Edward VII) and his descendants.

Mrs. Sarthou (widow of Alexander Ramsey of Mar, direct grandson of the third son of Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and strasser, Queen Victoria), her children and grandchildren.

Marquis of milford Haven (grandson of George mountbatten, second Marquis of milford Haven, distant cousin of the Duke of Edinburgh) and his family.

Countess mountbatten of Myanmar (eldest daughter of louis mountbatten, 1 Earl of mountbatten of Myanmar, distant cousin of Duke of Edinburgh) and her family.

Count Harewood is a distant relative of the Queen. Duke Fife, Marquis milford Haven, Countess mountbatten and Lady Sarthou of Myanmar, as well as their respective families, and the descendants of Lord Harewood, are far from the incumbent monarch. They are relatives of the royal family, not members.

None of these people received any financial support from the state, nor did they conduct official activities on behalf of the Queen. However, the Queen does invite them to private family activities and official royal occasions, such as military parade, golden jubilee celebration, ceremony or state funeral.

Members of the British royal family have three living ex-spouses:

Sarah, Duchess of York (ex-wife of Duke of York),

Captain mark phillips (the princess's first husband), and

Count Snowden (the late Princess Margaret's ex-husband).

Members of the royal family who died recently include:

Her Royal Highness Alice Maud Mary, Duchess of Gloucester (widow of Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, and now the mother of the Duke of Gloucester)

Her Royal Highness Princess Margaret, Countess Snowden (the Queen's sister).

Diana, Princess of Wales (the first wife of Prince Charles of Wales)

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth (widow of King George VI and mother of the Queen)
