The art of paper-cutting was recorded in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. It contains people's life feelings. Divided into northern and southern factions, the main representatives are Ku Lan Shu, Zhu Huamei, CoCo Lee, Wang Laoshang and others.

The history of China traditional culture paper-cut art has its own formation and development process. As early as the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, people used hollow carving to make handicrafts on some thin materials, which was popular long before paper appeared. Although it is not made of paper, it is exactly the same, laying the foundation for the emergence of paper-cutting in the true sense. It is said that China's earliest paper-cut works can prove this point.

In addition to the big factions, there are branches under the north and south factions. The southern school is divided into Mianyang paper-cut, Foshan paper-cut and Fujian folk paper-cut. The northern school is divided into Shanxi paper-cut, Yuxian paper-cut, Shaanxi folk paper-cut, magnetic paper-cut and Shandong folk paper-cut.

Ku Lan Shu can be regarded as the master of paper cutting. She is one of the outstanding representatives of folk paper-cutting art in China, the master of folk arts and crafts in China, and the "Mrs. Paper-cutting". She was awarded the title of "Outstanding Master of China Folk Art" by UNESCO.
