But making mochi is no easy task. The rice needs to be soaked two or three days in advance, until the grains break when pinched gently by the fingers. The soaked glutinous rice is placed on the fire and steamed, and when the smell of glutinous rice overflows and becomes more and more intense, it is steamed. My mom always pinched a glutinous rice ball into my mouth, and I chewed it with a big mouthful. The glutinous rice ball, with its crystal clear rice grains, like a pearl, instantly activated my taste buds.

A person's hands gripped the hammer, a person holding the handle, two people like a tug-of-war, the first glutinous rice mashed, and then, holding the hammer began to play the patties. Playing patties is a work of strength, hammer swinging people while playing and shouting, I and the children on the sidelines also followed and echoed, very lively! With the sound of the hammer, the sweet-smelling patties were made.
