How should contemporary college students inherit and carry forward the excellent moral tradition of the Chinese nation?
To correctly treat the moral tradition of the Chinese nation, we must adhere to the Marxist stand, viewpoint and method, which can neither be completely affirmed nor completely copied, nor completely denied nor completely abandoned. Contemporary college students mainly need to analyze and treat two wrong ideas about the moral tradition of the Chinese nation: one is cultural revivalism. According to this view, China lags behind because of the loss of traditional culture, especially Confucian culture. Therefore, the ultimate goal of moral construction is to restore China's "inherent culture", form a moral system with China's traditional culture as the main body, and derive modern science and democracy through the revival of this traditional morality, that is, the so-called "returning to the original and opening up the new". The second is historical nihilism. This view holds that China's traditional morality has lost its value and significance today as a whole, and cannot meet the needs of China's modernization, so it must be totally negated.
