Zigui folk playing flower drums have a long history, and still circulate folk. The great patriotic poet Qu Yuan's hometown of Sanlu since ancient times has circulated an ancient dance "Sanlu flower drums", the dance by the Danjiao, clown two performers, many people playing music. Its expression is unique: the performers hold folding fans and red handkerchiefs, dressed in bright costumes and unique and exquisite headdresses, Dan cross feet wearing embroidered shoes, the ugly foot wearing hemp straw shoes, singing and dancing, interspersed with white. Zigui flower encouragement in the early 1970s, was included in the city of Yichang "seven drums and a song", in 1981 in the "Chinese opera, opera dictionary", in 1998 by the Hubei Provincial Dancers Association compiled into the "Hubei Provincial Folk Dance Integration Volume".

The new "zigui flower drumming" is developed from the traditional flower drums, mainly Jiandong flower drums, Sanlu flower drums, jumping flower drums, etc. as the core, with the flower drums of the "big gong cavity" long singing as the keynote, with a small gong cavity, duanyang cavity, xinyang cavity and other tunes and gongs and drums as the main music, with a prostrate around the flower step, all the way to the wind, Danfeng Chaoyang, dragon lantern step and other characteristic movements of flower drums as the main dance vocabulary, dashing and generous, interesting, pulsating with love, teasing, funny and witty dance as the basic dance kernel, in the form of expression, the right hand holds a fan, the left hand holds a silk, the duo jumps in pairs. The mood is festive, warm and cheerful.
