What to eat in the southern Lantern Festival?

tangyuan

The food eaten during the Lantern Festival is divided into north and south. So, what do you eat for the Southern Lantern Festival? Generally speaking, the food that southerners usually eat during the Lantern Festival is glutinous rice balls, but there are some local traditional foods in some areas. For example, in Guangdong, lettuce will be eaten during the Lantern Festival, and of course dumplings will be eaten.

According to legend, Tangyuan originated in the Song Dynasty. At that time, Mingzhou (now Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province) began to eat a novel food, which was filled with black sesame seeds and lard, added with a little sugar, and wrapped in glutinous rice flour. After cooking, it tastes sweet, delicious and interesting. Because this glutinous rice dumpling floats and is heavy when cooked in a pot, it was originally called "floating Zi Yuan". Later, in some areas, "Floating Zi Yuan" was renamed jiaozi, but in Guangdong it was called Tangwan.
