The Making of Zhuang Traditional Culture Picture Books

After I came back from the Beijing Book Fair, I found many good books, some of which I never forget.

At that time, I punched in the China Children's Publishing House and saw the "Nine Deer Picture Books Series", the treasure of their family.

I didn't understand what the real "national style is light".

Low "Zhao Jun out of the fortress"

It is the great love of the nation and the feelings of home and country.

● Meihuasan Lane

Have the aesthetic taste and philosophical thinking of the ancients.

● "High mountains and flowing water"

The best template for "a bosom friend is hard to meet" for thousands of years.

"Legend of the Gods", reading history in mythology, shows the beauty of classicism.

● Qingming Riverside Map

It is also a national treasure and a top traditional painting.

Not only on the theme of the story, it can show children the excellent culture, emotional expression and life wisdom handed down by China for thousands of years.

In the production of picture books, it is also the exquisiteness and intention that anyone with a discerning eye can see. Holding it in your hand is a real sense of quality.

At that time, I wondered why such a good book was rarely recommended.

After a detailed chat with the editor, I realized that the original publicity channel was not ideal and the original pricing was not high. Coupled with the activities of e-commerce, the profit is minimal, and no one wants to push public channels.

In that case, I will do it.

When I came back, I asked the editor to send me all the nine deer series. To my surprise, this series not only explains traditional culture very well, but also has several books about folk culture, which is even more amazing.

For example, my father is a soldier, with a bicycle and Chinese food on his plate. Looking at the cover will bring back full childhood memories.

Especially the book "Chinese food on the plate", I just heard the name and thought it was a poem, but when I opened the inside page, it hit me instantly, and a warm breath came to my face.

Realistic painting style, strong local flavor.

I spent my childhood at my grandmother's house. When I was a child, I often worked with my grandparents in the fields, catching fish and loach, and planting some beans. I was very familiar with rural life.

But after I went to college, I went back to my hometown less often. Now the countryside is developing rapidly, so many scenes in my childhood memories have disappeared.

But opening this book is like getting on a time machine and taking me back to decades ago.

This book takes the traditional solar terms in China as the record clue, and the solar terms such as rain, fright, Qingming, Long Summer, Xiaoman, Great Summer, beginning of autumn, Autumn Equinox, Cold Dew and First Frost as the record nodes, and presents the main stages of farmers' rice planting through diary narration and pictures.

Starting with the poem "Compassion for Farmers", it is intended to give children popular science, how rice came from and how rice grew. It depends on how hard farmers grow food and cherish it.

But the realistic and exquisite painting style of this book really surprised me.

This is the season of pear blossoms in spring. People herded cattle and sheep for spring ploughing.

There is still freshly smoked bacon on the stove in my hometown.

In summer, the seedlings grow gradually. After a rain, butterflies and dragonflies flew. I seem to smell the fragrance of the earth from this painting.

The rice is almost ripe, and the sparrow flew in to get a piece of it.

When the autumn harvest comes, it will be lively. The whole family will go out, roll up their trouser legs, cut rice and catch fish.

Like me at that time, I would help my sister to work in the fields, but in fact I didn't do anything but play various games.

After harvesting, dry it on the flat ground and plow it with a grain rake.

God resumed the life of sowing and harvesting grain in the countryside.

Including these houses, the way people wear blue clothes, liberation shoes and hang clothes, as well as the pumpkins piled in the corner, and even the expressions when they work are exactly the same.

Especially when I saw this typhoon, I cried with excitement. I used to like to go around twice when I was young, but I haven't seen it since middle school.

Unconsciously turning over the book, I was moved by joy and melancholy.

I was moved by joy, because I didn't expect to see such a familiar and real rural life in a children's book, otherwise I would have to dream. (I feel like I have to accept one as a family heirloom)

Melancholy is also because most children now live in cities. Even if born in the countryside, few people know that it takes so much sweat and time for a grain of rice to reach our bowl.

If there is a real time machine, I would like to hold a jingle and feel the gift of nature together, and witness with my own eyes that a grain of rice is ground into white rice after soaking, sowing, transplanting and flowering.

Feel the arrival of spring, flat land, sunshine and rain, birds singing and dogs barking, fish swimming and flowing water gurgling. ...

Rich in details, showing childlike interest and vividness.

Maybe I've never seen such a rural life. When I read it with Tintin, he seemed to have discovered a new continent, and his face was full of surprise.

It means: "Mom, there are so many chickens."

Point there: Mom, this cloud is in the shape of a wolf!

The author is also well versed in children's psychology, deliberately burying various eggs in the picture.

In the flat and soft paddy field, there are deep and shallow chicken paw prints.

When the shepherd boy returns from herding cattle, he will also play with the lambs.

In the lush rice fields, frogs also jumped out of the water.

It's hard to find without careful observation.

There is also this "long street banquet" to celebrate the harvest. Clothes alone can attract children to watch for a long time, and many details inside are worth remembering.

Perhaps it is because of these detailed pictures that the whole book is particularly vivid, as if we were not reading, but actually walked into the picture and experienced a completely different spring, summer, autumn and winter.

Intimate arrangement

Give consideration to story coherence and professional science popularization.

In addition to the above points, I like it. The arrangement of this book is also broken for our parents.

It stands to reason that popular science picture books just mark the knowledge points directly on the pictures, which is convenient and fast.

But because it didn't want to disturb the coherence of children's listening to stories and found the details interesting, it deliberately divided the book into several parts.

Ring lining, popularize agricultural tools first.

I counted nearly 20 kinds.

The design, name and purpose are clearly marked.

The middle part mainly explains the growth state of rice to children by means of text description and big scene.

Language is also easy to understand.

The small picture in the lower left corner serves as a bridge between pictures, and notes "Twenty-four solar terms".

Finally, several pages of explanation of popular science knowledge were printed separately. This part has many words and a wide range of knowledge. At the age of dingdong, there is no need to understand, and older children can understand.

According to 24 solar terms's detailed introduction, it is also different from other books on solar terms, which is closely related to farming.

It will also analyze the terrain in depth.

Including the farming process corresponding to each solar term.

How to use farm tools

Yes, except for the ring lining.

There are also detailed instructions on farm tools here.

Rice growth process

There is even a difference between rice. Next time you take Dingdong to the supermarket, you can recognize it.

After such a complete knowledge system, I believe that children will have completely different feelings about the food they eat.

Every day at home, we tell our children that "every grain is hard" and let them recite the poem "Poor Farmers". In fact, children are versatile if they don't understand. Let's take a look at the real thing. I feel that this book can be used to recite poems after Jingling, haha ~)

Ingenious, hard-working, only a good work.

After several inquiries with the publishing house, I realized that the story behind the creation was more valuable.

I am interested in "rice grains" since I was a child, so I want to show rice to young readers truly and accurately when I create picture books, so as to continue China's long farming culture.

But she has no breeding experience and is unwilling to take shortcuts, so she can only find some materials and paintings on the Internet. so

I personally went to Yunnan for two years.

From 20 14, at the age of 25, she went to the terraced fields in Yunyang, Yunnan Province to collect wind for this book, and lived and worked with local farmers. A painting lasted for two years.

That's not enough. I came back worried that I wasn't professional enough-

▌ Constantly seek the control of professionals.

With the help of the editor, Professor Chen, a professor of Peking University Academy of Life Sciences and an expert in botany, was finally invited to proofread the book professionally.

Even found the content of the Yuan Longping academician exam before finalizing it.

Yuan Longping provides scientific advice for Chinese food on the plate.

After the final draft, in order to achieve the best visual effect, after careful comparison, I finally chose matte coated paper+Dutch version, which neither reflects light nor smudges watercolor. The texture looks different from other books.

The color is full.

This paper is very thick.

There is a bowl of rice on the cover.

I feel rustling.

Many things happen. Yu Hongcheng's Chinese Cuisine, once published, immediately caused a sensation in the picture book industry and won more than 20 awards at home and abroad within one year.

Including Bologna International Illustrator Award and Feng Zikai Children's Picture Book Award.

So far, she is the first China painter to win the Bologna Illustrator Award. It's really amazing!

Today, I wrote her story. First of all, I expressed my deep respect for her. In such an impetuous society, there are still people who are willing to pay for their children and take the time to nurture their works.

Second, let more people know that there is no shortage of good picture book authors in China, and expect more good works to shine, so that children can feel the taste of traditional China in the journey of happy stories.
