Why did the ancient Romans wash clothes with urine?

There are countless wonderful things about ancient times, so when it comes to ancient Rome, the first thing that comes to mind is the Colosseum. Yes, half the income of ancient Rome came from the Colosseum. Although their income is quite large, there is a wonderful rumor that the ancient Romans could not afford water, but they used urine to wash clothes and do some private things. However, in my opinion, the ancient Romans did not use urine to wash clothes for the following reasons.

So no matter ancient people, modern people or very poor people will sort out clothes, but did ancient Egyptians really use urine to wash clothes? The answer is wrong. First of all, according to common sense, clothes should be washed more and more cleanly and the smell should be removed. If they are stupid enough to use urine to wash clothes, they might as well not wash them, because it will be more self-defeating and dirty their clothes. Secondly, there is no such record in history. If washing clothes with urine is really beneficial, why hasn't the traditional habit of washing clothes with urine been passed down? Therefore, the ancient Romans were not stupid enough to use urine to wash clothes, which were only handed down by later generations.

Maybe the people in ancient Rome were different from us in living habits, but it is not necessarily an exaggeration to say that the ancient Romans used urine to wash clothes.
