Introduction to Dongshan County

Dongshan County is located on the southern coast of Fujian Province and the west coast of the Taiwan Strait.

The geographical coordinates are 23°33′-23°47′ north latitude and 117°17′-117°35′ east longitude.

It is the sixth island county in the country and the second largest island county in Fujian Province, with a total area of ??248.34 square kilometers.

Dongshan Island consists of the main island and 67 surrounding small islands. It is shaped like seven stars over the moon and a lifelike butterfly, so it is called Butterfly Island.

As of 2013, the main island covers an area of ??220.18 square kilometers, with a national economic and technological development zone, a tourism economic development zone, seven town-level people's governments, 61 administrative villages and 16 neighborhood committees, with a total population of 215,700.

It has successively won the titles of "National Sustainable Development Experimental Zone", "National Ecological Demonstration County", "Excellent Tourism County", "National Double Support Model County", "National Advanced County in Science and Technology Work", and "Provincial Health County".
