Is the surname of the Japanese father or mother?
Japanese is a country with more traditions than China. Surnames surround men. Of course, children use their fathers' surnames, and women should also use their husbands' surnames after marriage. Their names can remain the same.
The same was true in China before the Revolution of 1911. When a woman got married, she had to change her husband's surname. Women's names in history books include "Wang" (maiden name Zhang, married to the Wang family), "Li" (maiden name Yang, married to the Li family) and "Dong" (maiden name Feng, married to the Dong family).
