international children's day

International Children's Day (also known as Children's Day) is a festival to protect children's rights and oppose child abuse and poisoning. In most countries, it is usually June 1 every year.

The concept of "International Children's Day" was first put forward at the International Child Welfare Conference held in Geneva, Switzerland from 65438 to 0925. As for why June 1 was chosen, there is no clear answer so far. According to one theory, the Consul General of the Republic of China in San Francisco convened a group of China orphans to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival in 1925. This activity was held on June 1 that year, which coincided with the Geneva Conference. The meeting of the International Democratic Women's Federation was held in Moscow from 65438 to 0949. A resolution was adopted at the meeting to protect the rights of children all over the world and oppose the abuse and poisoning of children. Decided that June 1 day was the International Children's Day.

At present, many countries in the world have designated June 1 as Children's Day, especially socialist countries. In Europe and the United States, the date of Children's Day is different, and public celebrations are rarely held. (See further discussion in Germany below for details) Only socialist countries have designated June 1 as Children's Day, which is often misunderstood. In fact, in recent years, some organizations in the United States have begun to consider June 1 day as Children's Day.

Asia

Starting from 1949, People's Republic of China (PRC) officially designated June 1 as the International Children's Day. Although Hong Kong is now a part of the Republic of China, the date of Children's Day in Hong Kong is still April 4th of the Republic of China. The way of folk celebration is to give children toys and gifts, or to accompany them out for a big meal or play.

Japan

Japan's Children's Day, called "Children's Day" (Japanese: こどもの), is a traditional festival. On May 5th every year, Japanese families celebrate their children's growth. Before World War II, this festival was called "Dragon Boat Festival" (Japanese: Dragon Boat Festival), and it was only a boy's festival. 1948, when this festival becomes a public holiday, it becomes a festival to celebrate the happiness and welfare of all children. On the festival day, Japanese families will hang fish-shaped signs on the roofs to symbolize that children can eliminate bad luck, overcome difficulties and grow up smoothly.

South Korea

South Korea's Children's Day (Korean:) started at 1975 and evolved from "Boys' Day". This is also a public holiday in Korea, which is scheduled for May 5th every year. Parents usually take their children to parks, zoos or other entertainment facilities on this day, so that they can spend their holidays happily.

India

In India, Children's Day is the birthday of the founding Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, and it is 1 1.04 every year.

Türkiye

April 23rd is Turkey's "National Sovereignty and Children's Day". This festival comes from the date of the Turkish National Assembly in 1920 during the Turkish War of Independence. 1929, according to the suggestion of child protection organizations, this day was designated as Children's Day. Starting from 1986, the Turkish government began to celebrate International Children's Day on April 23rd.

Thailand

Children's Day in Thailand is on the second Saturday in January.

Europe

Germany

During the Cold War, East Germany and West Germany did different things on Children's Day. First, the dates are different: East Germany is scheduled for June 1, and West Germany is scheduled for September 20th; Its name is also different: East Germany became "International Children's Day" and West Germany called it "Weltkindertag". In addition, there are differences in the traditions of festivals.

In GDR, Children's Day begins at 1950. Since then, this day has been the happiest day of the year for children. I often receive blessings and gifts from my parents, and the school also holds special celebrations, such as outings. In the Federal Republic of Germany, Children's Day has no special significance, and many people don't even know the existence of this festival.

With the reunification of Germany in 1990, the date and name of Children's Day in West Germany became the official unified standard in Germany. However, in many places in East Germany, people still can't change old habits and titles. So every June 1, many parents still celebrate Children's Day with their children.
