What is there to do in Chengde? What's good to eat in Chengde?

Chengde has the world's largest royal garden, wooden Buddha and the shortest river. There are many places in the world in Chengde. It is a place worth seeing. Use your eyes to discover the beauty of Chengde and feel it.

Every summer vacation to go out and enjoy the great mountains and rivers of the motherland. The year before last, I went to Zhangjiajie and Xiangxi, enjoying the magnificent mountains and rivers of Hunan, the terror of the glass stacks, and the simplicity and purity of Xiangxi. Last year, I visited Qinghai Lake, Chaka Salt Lake, Dunhuang and Zhangye along the Hexi Corridor. But this year, due to the task of corporate internships, there is not much time to squander, only to find a closer place. So this year's summer trip was chosen in Chengde, more than 200 kilometers from the capital. I followed in the footsteps of the emperor to see the Summer Palace of the Qing Dynasty "Summer Resort and Outer Eight Temples".

Itinerary Planning

Day 1: Arrive at night

Day 2: Summer Resort, Puning Temple, Jin Dynasty Kangxi Ceremony

Day 3: Putuo Zongcheng Temple, Mount Sumeru Fushousi Temple, Nanyingzijie

Tips

Perfomable clothes (very important, Chengde mountainous area has a big temperature difference between morning and evening, especially at night to see the performance of the Dingsheng Dynasty The time of the show), ID card ID card! It is important to say three times! Bank card, cell phone, a small amount of cash.

Accommodation: the most important thing for students to go out is the medical examination (pian) (yi), so I have been traveling outside the preferred youth hostels. This time, I booked a youth hostel, 40 yuan a bed. The standard room in the Express Hotel, which costs three to four hundred everywhere, is beyond the spending range of our student party.

Gourmet: big hotels are to see (chi), do not see (bu), service (qi), only to find the local specialty snacks. Recommended a few good: apricot meet you (the first almond products); old Ding mutton soup (the first mutton soup burrito); Muslim Hui (the first one is cabbage fried chicken slices); scissors face.

Summer Resort

, early in the morning out of the hostel, straight to the review of the very hot "apricot meets you" to eat breakfast, and then in accordance with the netizen said, from his home to buy the full bloom of the dynasty of the night discount tickets, began to play the summer resort with their summer resort voice guide.

It has to be said that the summer resort exists in name only and cannot escape the summer at all. After ten o'clock in the morning, sunbathing people are covered with oil, physical strength is not good people will really heat stroke, feel at least thirty-eight nine degrees high. I really want to ask Emperor Kang Xi: Are you kidding me?

Compared with the Forbidden City here, the palace area, where the emperor handled state affairs, is extraordinarily humble and completely devoid of royal grandeur. But its back garden is particularly large, and it is estimated that 10 royal gardens in the Forbidden City are not as big as a piece of forest in a summer resort. It shows that the emperor still preferred the mountains and waters here.

Kang Xi and Gan Long respectively mentioned 36 attractions of the summer resort. Kangxi's 36 sights are all mentioned in four words, and Gan Long's 36 sights are all mentioned in three words. What they mentioned together is called the 72 Scenes of Kangxi and Gan Long. However, there were far more than these 72 sights during the glorious period of the Summer Resort. Unfortunately, most of these attractions were destroyed during those turbulent times and very few remain.

The Summer Resort and the Eight Outer Temples are very close to each other. From the map, there are 12 temples around the Summer Resort from east to north***. However, as mentioned in many travelogues, only three of the Outer Eight Temples are really worth visiting: the Puning Temple, the Putuo Zongcheng Temple (the small Potala Palace), and the Sumeru Fushou Temple (the Banchen Palace). The others have either been destroyed or there is nothing worth visiting anymore. Therefore, I only chose to visit these three temples. To be honest, for someone like me who has no interest in Buddhism going to temples is really an ordeal. The good thing is that the temples in Chengde have nice scenery and the pictures taken are quite memorable.

Puning Temple in the Eight Outer Temples;

Puning Temple

Puning Temple is the only royal temple in the Eight Outer Temples that has incense. There are many lamas in Tibetan robes inside. There are a lot of incense sellers at the entrance and inside the scenic area, but we didn't have any incense either because we really don't have faith. But in the end, we couldn't resist donating 10 dollars to Gong

Grand show: the Golden Dynasty Kangxi Ceremony

Chengde is a city where everything seems to be connected to the Qing emperors. The sights were made by the emperor, and the good food was eaten by the emperor. The evening show is also the legendary life of Emperor Kang Xi. I was thinking that if Emperor Kang Xi had not built his summer residence here, I am afraid that Chengde would not exist.

I hadn't planned to see the show because the 100-odd dollar ticket price still hurts our student party. But there really isn't much to do in Chengde at night. After arriving here on the first night, I asked the owner of the youth hostel. It seems like there really isn't much nightlife except for walking along the river. Add to that the fact that the flights Starhawk booked to meet you were really much cheaper, and I went without any ill will. A show proved to be quite worth it. At least the stiffness of the lighting and the number of dancers would make you feel like it was money well spent and not a rip-off deal.

Small Potala Banchen Palace

Putra Dzongchen Temple is the official name of the Small Potala Palace. Because it is modeled after the Potala Palace in Tibet, people call it the "Little Potala Palace". I doubt that Emperor Ganlong had ever been to Tibet or seen the Potala Palace with his own eyes. But there must have been a lot of people to describe to him how magnificent the Potala Palace, said the Qianlong master heart itching, but can not really go, so he ordered people to build an imitation in Chengde. That's how it is to be an emperor. You can build a similar one with all the good things in the world around you. With imperial power, you can have the world without leaving your home.

Temple of Sumeru Blessing

The Temple of Sumeru Blessing is the last royal temple of the eight outer temples. The completion of this temple coincided with the 70th birthday of Emperor Ganon. The Sixth Panchen, who was far away in Tibet, took the initiative to come over to wish him a happy birthday. Emperor Gan Long was so happy that he ordered people to build this Banchen Palace. I am afraid that this temple would not have been built if the Banchen had not come to the audience on his own initiative. However, sadly, the Sixth Panchen died of smallpox during this trip. I don't think either he himself, the Qianlong Emperor, or the Tibetan monks ever expected his visit to be forever.

Food

To be honest there really aren't many good snacks in Chengde. We are relying on reviews and tips to find the past, and have not been to any big restaurant. I've been to a lot of snack bars, and I'd like to recommend a few that I've eaten that I think are good.

One, Starhope meets you.

This store mainly do almond products, there are a lot of netizens recommended. Reviews on the ranking is also good, but not much to eat. Almond tea is really commendable. His family mainly does good service. He patiently introduces you to this and that, and also helps book discounted airfare, overall four and a half stars.

Two, the old three mutton soup

Saw a few mutton soup stores in Chengde, all of which are old mutton soup. Would have liked to go online very hot old Ding, but go to the Potala Palace just happened to see the third roadside lamb soup, get off to eat. The flavor was okay, not smelly. I don't know what the other houses taste like, but I guess it shouldn't be too different. Recommendation index 4 stars.

Third, Muslim Hui.

Tired of looking for this store. It was recommended by a local who said it was a Muslim-run restaurant that made great authentic food. It took a long time to find it. It was especially crowded at noon and looked really hot. I ordered his signature dish "cabbage fried chicken", which is actually sweet and sour chicken. I don't know why it was so hot, but it was better than the price of the vegetarian dishes. My partner and I settled for 25 bucks for lunch. Maybe cheap is the core of popularity. Recommendation index 4 stars.

Four, scissor face

This one was also found by reading reviews. It was noodles cooked in an alcohol-burning copper pot. It's probably called Scissor Face because the noodles are cut with scissors. It's also a sketchy name. Reviews have discounts. Two people ordered a medium size pot for $24.80. The food was not bad and tasted great. The only downside was too much oil. Recommendation index four and a half stars.

Besides the Eight Temples outside the Summer Resort, there are a few more mountains and small temples in the Chengde city area, but they don't get very good reviews online, so I didn't try them.

To be honest, traveling to Chengde for the sake of coolness is really not a good choice. At least, it's really hot for us these days. If you really want to escape the heat, you still have to go north to the Damshang Grassland to cool down a bit. However, due to time constraints and having been to Damshang before, I don't plan to go to the grassland this time.

There is one suggestion for tourists who are planning to travel to Chengde: Chengde is a small city with a high concentration of attractions and two days to play. If you want to enjoy the cool summer and you have more than three days to play, it is recommended that you spend one day around the Summer Resort to see the peak performance and the rest of the time to the grassland.

A word of advice to all students. Take advantage of your summer vacation to visit some places. If you don't make the most of the previous summer vacation, you will be scared and unhappy with internships and job hunting if you try to have fun the following summer.
