What are the main problems in meat duck breeding in China at present?

(1) The feeding mode is backward. China's meat duck breeding industry mainly adopts low-input and open greenhouse production mode. Decentralized farming in rural family courtyard greenhouses accounts for 90% of the total aquaculture in China, with poor infrastructure and equipment, poor farming environment and backward farming technology. Courtyard-style feeding is mainly based on ground flat feeding, and some farmers use online flat feeding, so cross-infection of duck disease is very serious. Therefore, improving the feeding methods of meat ducks can comprehensively improve the living and growth environment of meat ducks, reduce the incidence rate, improve the health level and safety, and promote the overall industrial upgrading.

(2) Duck disease epidemic prevention is not standardized. In recent years, bird flu, duck hepatitis, duck serositis, Escherichia coli and other diseases have caused huge economic losses to duck industry in China. Diseases endanger the health of meat ducks, reducing their production performance and the economic benefits of aquaculture. In order to prevent and control meat duck diseases, farmers abuse veterinary drugs, which makes the hygiene and safety of meat duck products not guaranteed, brings hidden dangers to food safety and harms human health. Therefore, we should adhere to the principle of putting prevention first, and prevention is more important than cure, and disinfect regularly to enhance immunity. Duck sheds and their surrounding environment, pools and sports fields should be disinfected regularly. Disinfectants should be changed frequently to prevent drug resistance. Immunization is an important technical measure to prevent the occurrence of meat duck disease. All localities should formulate immunization procedures according to the epidemic characteristics of epidemic diseases, and vaccinate in strict accordance with the immunization procedures to prevent the occurrence of diseases.

(3) Poor feed quality. Feed cost accounts for more than 65% of the total cost of breeding production, which is the key to the economic benefits of meat duck breeding. However, because China has not yet established the nutritional requirement standard for meat ducks, many feed enterprises make feed according to their own experience, which leads to the instability and poor quality of meat duck feed and causes losses to farms. Therefore, providing balanced compound feed for the growth of meat ducks is an important guarantee for the development of meat duck industry.

(4) Meat duck breeding enterprises or farmers with serious environmental pollution are not aware of environmental protection, and they randomly pile up feces around duck farms, along roads, villages or straight rivers, resulting in water pollution and environmental deterioration.

(5) Duck products processing technology is backward. Although duck products in China are rich and varied, most of them are processed by traditional manual workshops. Due to the backward processing means and technology, the products produced are of low grade and cannot fully meet the needs of modern consumption and export.
