What festival is Songkran Festival?

SongkranFestival, also known as Songkran Festival, is a traditional festival in Thailand, Laos, China (where the Dai people live) and Cambodia.

The water-sprinkling festival lasts for 3 days and is held from April 13 to June 15 in Gregorian calendar every year. The main activities of the festival include fasting monks to do good deeds, bathing and purifying themselves, people splashing water on each other to pray for blessings, worshipping their elders, releasing people, playing songs and dances and so on. The Songkran Festival originated from the Brahmanism ceremony in India. Every year, believers have a religious day to bathe by the river and wash away their sins. Those who can't go to the river because of old age, physical disability or illness, their families or friends have to pick up water and pour it on these people to wash away their sins. Songkran Festival in Chiang Mai, Thailand is famous for its grand excitement, attracting a large number of domestic and foreign tourists every year.
