Agricultural distribution area in China

In China, except for the single cropping system in the northeast, northwest and northern North China due to insufficient heat conditions, multiple cropping system is implemented in most areas, as shown in the figure.

The northern boundary of multiple cropping has crossed the Great Wall, the planting of double cropping rice has moved northward to 34 north latitude, and the altitude of Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau has risen to 2420 meters. The boundary of triple cropping system moves from 25 north latitude to 32 north latitude.

Extended data

The regional characteristics of different farming systems are:

1, once-a-year area: generally suitable for areas with cold climate and short frost-free period. In the case of good climatic conditions, one-year cropping system can also be adopted due to reasons such as large population and small land, insufficient investment in capital and technology or poor soil fertility.

2, more than one year cooked area:

The main topographic areas in the north are North China Plain and Loess Plateau. The climate type is mainly temperate monsoon climate, mainly wheat, peanuts and sugar beet, so the agricultural system has one crop a year (Northeast China) to three crops every two years (North China).

The main topographic areas in the south are the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River plain, Sichuan Basin, Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau and southeast hills. The climate types are mainly subtropical monsoon climate and tropical monsoon climate, mainly rice, rape and sugarcane, so the agricultural system is double cropping to triple cropping a year.
