The legend of Meng Jiangnu, also known as Meng Jiangnu's Crying for the Great Wall, is one of the four great love legends in ancient China (the other three are Cowherd and Weaver Girl, Butterfly Lovers and Legend of White Snake). The legend of Meng Jiangnv has a long history, and there are sporadic records in Zuo's Biography in the Spring and Autumn Period, Tan Gong in the Book of Rites, Mencius, Shuoyuan and Lienv Biography in the Han Dynasty.
